An often asked question when looking for an scrapbook album is “Which type should I use? Post-bound or Strap-hinge?” That is a great question! We believe it comes down to your personal preference. So, what’s the difference?

Post-Bound Albums:
These albums use metal posts to hold your pages in the album. To insert future pages, or re-arrange existing ones the posts can be unscrewed allowing you access. Extensions can be added to the posts to make them larger, hence holding more pages. The pages lay flat when open which makes this selection great for two-page layouts. You can find post-bound albums in many different styles, and they tend to be somewhat less expensive then the strap-hinge albums.

Strap-Hinge Albums:
These albums use a plastic strap and metal hinge to hold your pages in the book. You add new pages by running the strap through them. Strap-Hinge albums are expandable, but not to the extent of post-bound books because the strap is only so long. Pages still lay flat, making this selection good for two page laytouts. Strap-Hinge albums tend to be somewhat more expensive.

Our take:
It is really up to you. Both styles allow you to expand and re-arrange your books. The biggest thing to remember is, if you are not sure how many pages your book will contain, or it is a growing album, you may want to go post-bound as it’s expansion capabilities are more extensive.
